Racing Heritage on the Atlantic Coast
Held just outside Lisbon on the iconic Estoril Circuit, the 2024 Estoril Classics once again proved why it has become one of Europe’s most authentic historic motorsport events. Despite a weekend marked by cloudy skies, the mild Portuguese weather created perfect conditions to enjoy a remarkable celebration of racing heritage in a relaxed and passionate atmosphere.
Throughout the weekend, the action on track was intense, particularly during the highly competitive 2.0L Cup, where spectators witnessed an exciting battle for victory. In the end, it was Dario Franchitti who came out on top. A true motorsport legend, the Scottish driver built an exceptional career with four IndyCar titles, three victories at the Indianapolis 500 and multiple endurance racing successes around the world.
Another unforgettable moment was the presence of Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, who took to the track sharing the wheel of the iconic Porsche 935 that famously won both the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1982. Alongside him was none other than Tom Kristensen, widely regarded as one of endurance racing’s greatest names and forever remembered for his record nine victories at Le Mans.
More than just a race meeting, Estoril Classics offered a truly authentic motorsport experience. Between the historic paddocks, legendary cars and relaxed atmosphere unique to southern Europe, the event once again reminded why historic racing remains so special.
